Why should you get Blind Ferret’s Rayne Summers Scholarship fund?
While we will be looking closely at your portfolio (writing and drawing samples) there is also a certain intangible quality to every artist that demonstrates the way they think and how they choose to represent themselves. The RS Scholarship seeks a recipient that has the desire to excel not only with their technical artistic skills, but who also has the drive to promote and better the medium in which they work.
The following submission criterion is the first step. After we examine all candidates’ entries we will conduct interviews.
Submission Criteria
- Five (5) finished art pieces in any medium you wish (digital, pencil, ink, oil, crayola).
At least 3 of these should show some storytelling. Reproductions are encouraged, but originals will be accepted if you think it appropriate. Reproductions should be 8.5”x11” or 11”x17” and originals up to 11”x17” will be accepted. As a matter of course these submissions will NOT be returned to you (special circumstances can be discussed) and originals are discouraged.
- Three (3) written scripts showing sequentialism.
These can be as short as 4 panels and up to three pages. We are not looking for a full story. You may use any characters you like. For “short form” pieces, like a 4 panel strip, we advise you write more to show “story arc”.
- The following questions should be answered in 300 words or less.
- It's the future; you’ve graduated and are now free to pursue your craft in whatever way you like. Tell us what you want to do.
- Are you an artist or a writer or do you consider yourself both?
- What one person would you consider your greatest artistic influence and why? And what person would you consider your greatest personal influence?
- A one page/appx 500 word letter telling us about you.
